The top of the leveler is open and the screw will not have anything to grab onto after you screwed through the socket.

You can definitely reach into the hole with an extra long flat head screwdriver and turn the base. The wider the blade the better. As a bonus, you can also use a long #2 phillips driver because the base of the leg has two slots at 90 degrees in a "plus" configuration. I have confirmed this by trying both drivers. If using a wide flat driver, hole has to be about 10 mm or 3/8" diameter.
