I just moved to a new apartment and the bathroom cabinets' doors are just free swing. I would like to install this hardware but I was wondering if the hinges need to be self-close for it to work or can I adjust the strength of the mechanism? Thank you!

Yes, to use soft close pistons, the doors would need to be self closing at minimum. Many versions are available with the soft close already integrated into the cup of the hinge already.

Thanks for your answer, turns out that the doors are 5/8" thick, so I think I'll need to replace the hinges to self-close and then add a soft-close mechanism.
