To measure for 1/2 inch overlay hinges, with the door closed, measure the distance from the edge of the cabinet opening to the edge of the door on the hinge side; this distance should be 1/2 inch for a 1/2 overlay hinge. This measurement ensures the door will cover half an inch of the cabinet frame on each side when closed.
