From the manufacture -This 18.5" bracket features four locking teeth and holds up to 450 lbs. per pair when properly installed
They do not mention anything about depth. If you are wanting to use a 20" or 24" wide board then you can order a 20" or 24" deep shelf bracket. I would keep the board width close to the shelf bracket depth
