Counterbores and countersinks are hole-enlarging tools used to recess screw or bolt heads. A counterbore creates a flat-bottomed, cylindrical recess for socket or hex-head bolts. A countersink creates a conical recess, typically 82° or 90°, for flat-head screws to sit flush with the surface.
