SawStop detects a finger by monitoring the electrical signal on the spinning blade. Human skin conducts electricity and changes that signal within 3–5 milliseconds. The saw triggers an aluminum brake into the blade, stops the blade almost instantly, and drops it below the table to reduce severe injury.
