Identify a router bit by checking its profile, cutting edge shape, bearing position, shank size, and printed markings. Straight bits have flat cutting edges, round-over bits have curved profiles, and flush-trim bits include a guide bearing. Measure the cutting diameter and match the 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch shank to the router collet.
