4 Ways to lock kitchen cabinets?

There are several ways to lock your kitchen cabinets, depending on your specific needs and preferences. Here are a few options:

https://youtube.com/shorts/hsaUQtpBxk8?feature=share
  1. Childproof cabinet locks: If you have young children at home, childproof cabinet locks can be an effective way to keep them out of the cabinets. These locks are easy to install. They typically work by attaching a latch or hook to the inside of the cabinet door. This prevents it from being opened without a key or a specific motion.
  2. Magnetic cabinet locks: Magnetic cabinet locks are another option for childproofing your cabinets. These locks use a magnet to keep the cabinet doors closed, and they are typically installed on the inside of the cabinet door and frame. They are easy to install and can be a good choice if you don’t want to drill holes or use adhesive.
  3. Keyed cabinet locks: If you want to secure your cabinets against unauthorized access, keyed cabinet locks are a good option. These locks require a key to unlock the cabinet, and they can be installed on the inside of the cabinet door or the outside.
  4. Combination cabinet locks: Combination cabinet locks are another option if you want to keep your cabinets locked but don’t want to carry around a key. These locks require a combination to open, which can be set and reset as needed.

When you found the way to lock your kitchen cabinet, consider factors such as ease of installation, ease of use, and the level of security you need. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully when installing your chosen lock to ensure it works properly.

Concealed hinges offer several advantages over traditional hinges that are visible from the outside. Here are some of the benefits of using concealed hinges:

  1. Aesthetics: One of the primary advantages of concealed hinges is that they provide a clean and sleek look to cabinets and doors. Since the hinge is hidden from view, it does not disrupt the appearance of the furniture or interior design.
  2. Accessibility: Concealed hinges allow doors to open up to a full 180 degrees, which can provide greater accessibility and ease of use. This is especially important in spaces that are tight or have limited room for door swing.
  3. Durability: Concealed hinges are often made from high-quality materials which make them more durable and resistant to wear and tear. They also tend to be more resistant to moisture and humidity, which can be a concern in bathrooms or kitchens.
  4. Adjustability: Many concealed hinges are designed to be adjustable, which allows for fine-tuning of the door alignment and ensures a perfect fit. This can be especially useful in situations where the door or cabinet may have shifted over time.
  5. Soft-Close: Most concealed hinges are available in either self or soft close. There is nothing nicer than a door closing quietly, especially when the kids are fast asleep and you are looking for a midnight snack.

Overall, concealed hinges offer a range of benefits that can enhance the appearance and functionality of cabinets and doors. While they may be more expensive than traditional hinges, their durability and longevity can make them a worthwhile investment in your home or place of business.

Concealed Cabinet Hinges: The Sleek and Modern Way to Upgrade Your Cabinets

Concealed hidden hinge by Titus brand

Concealed cabinet hinges, also known as European hinges or cupboard hinges, are a type of hinge that are designed to be hidden from view when the cabinet door is closed. This gives the appearance of a seamless, smooth surface on the cabinet and adds a clean, modern look to any kitchen or bathroom.

There are several types of concealed cabinet hinges, including full overlay, half overlay, and inset. Full overlay hinges are the most popular choice because they allow the cabinet door to completely cover the frame of the cabinet, creating a sleek, contemporary look. Half overlay hinges allow the door to partially cover the frame, while inset hinges are installed within the cabinet frame, making them completely hidden when the door is closed.

One of the main benefits of concealed cabinet hinges is their adjustability. They are designed with a small adjustment screw that allows you to fine-tune the fit of the door, ensuring that it is perfectly aligned with the frame. This is especially useful when you are installing new cabinets or replacing old ones, as it allows you to get a precise fit without having to do any additional carpentry work.

Another advantage of concealed cabinet hinges is their durability. These hinges are typically made from high-quality materials, such as steel or zinc alloy, which makes them resistant to wear and tear. They are also designed to be easy to install, with most models requiring just a few hinge screws and a drill.

Overall, concealed cabinet hinges are a great choice for anyone looking to update the look of their kitchen or bathroom cabinets. They offer a sleek, modern look and are adjustable and durable, making them a practical and stylish choice for any home renovation project. This video will explaing a little more informaition about concealed cabinet hinges and how they work.

How to Choose and Measure for a Lazy Susan

With Lazy Susans being available in four different shapes and a variety of sizes, it can be difficult to find the susan that you need. I will help you choose and measure for a new Lazy Susan so you can rest assure that you purchase the correct Lazy Susan, the first time!

full circle lazy susan
pie-cut lazy susan

Kidney Shape Lazy Susan

The first on the list is the kidney shape lazy susan. These Lazy Susans are designed to work with corner cabinets that have unattached, double folding doors. By unattached, i am talking about a door that when it swings opens, it leaves behind the kidney susan sitting in the cabinet by itself.

Pie-Cut Lazy Susan

Now number two on the list is the pie cut lazy susan. These are very similar to the kidney Lazy Susans, however, the pie cut has a much stronger 90 degree angle. These susans work just like the kidney lazy susans except these units are designed for the cabinet door to be directly attached to the lazy susan. You’ll know if you need a pie cut lazy susan because your doors will rotate into the cabinet when you actually use a lazy susan.

How to Measure for Pie-Cut and Kidney Shaped Lazy Susans

Whether measuring for a kidney shape lazy susan or a pie cut lazy susan the process is the same. You will need to measure the inside space of your corner cabinet with the doors open. You’re going to take two measurements starting from the right side back wall to the inside edge of the door opening. Do this in both directions (left side back wall as well) to make sure that the measurements are the same. If they are, just subtract approximately two inches from this measurement. This measurement will be the maximum size lazy susan that you will be able to fit into your cabinet. If the measurements are not the same, simply deduct approximately two inches from the smaller of the two measurements. This will ensure that your lazy susan will have enough clearance once it is installed. For example, let’s pretend that our measurements are around 34 inches in both directions. After subtracting two inches, we can install at max a 32-inch lazy susan.

The D-Shaped Lazy Susan

The d-shaped lazy susan is primarily designed for corner diagonal 45 degree wall and base cabinets. This type of lazy susan can also be installed in standard (non-corner) cabinets. When measuring for a d-shaped lazy susan for use in a 45 degree angle cabinet you will need to measure the inside space of the cabinet from the inside back of the cabinet, to the side wall of the cabinet that is parallel with the back side of the cabinet (please watch this video for a visual reference). You next write this measurement down and then subtract two inches from that measurement. Just as for the other susans, order the lazy susan that is the closest to that size without selecting a larger size.

Full Circle Lazy Susan

Finally, we have the full circle lazy susan. The full round lazy susans are among the most versatile. These round susans fit in regular cabinets corner cabinets and into most any upper and lower cabinet you throw at it. When measuring for a full circle lazy susan you will need to measure the inside space of the cabinet from left to right and from front to back. Go ahead and write those measurements down. Now let’s say, for an example, your left to right measurement is 19 inches and your front to back measurement is 23 inches. Compare those two measurements and once again, take the smaller measurement of the two. For the full circle lazy susan you only need to subtract one or two inches from that measurement and order the lazy susan that is closest to that size, once again, without selecting a larger size.

In Conclusion

For the hieght of your cabinet, it is important to be aware that most lazy susans have a telescoping shaft that will fit interior cabinet heights ranging from 26 to 31 inches. So be sure to double check your measurements and the info that is located on the specific Lazy Susan that you are ordering. We have all of the necessary measurements of each unit in the product’s description. Happy Spinning!

Wood Cabinets vs Particle Board Cabinets, What to Choose?

When it comes to choosing kitchen cabinets, homeowners often have to decide between wood and particle board. While both materials have their own set of advantages and disadvantages, the right choice will depend on your specific needs and preferences.

Wood and particle board Kitchen cabinets being installed

Wood Cabinets

Wood cabinets are made from solid wood, such as oak, maple, or cherry. They are known for their durability and longevity, as well as their natural beauty. Wood cabinets can add warmth and character to a kitchen, and they can be stained or painted to match the decor. They are also highly resistant to moisture and can withstand the wear and tear of daily use. However, wood cabinets can be expensive and may require more maintenance over time. They may also be prone to warping or cracking if they are not properly sealed and cared for.

Particle Board Cabinets

On the other hand, particle board cabinets are made from wood chips, sawdust, and other wood-based materials that are combined using heat and pressure. They are usually less expensive than wood cabinets and can be a good choice for those on a budget. Particle board cabinets are also relatively lightweight and easy to install. However, they are not as durable as wood cabinets and may not last as long. They are also more prone to moisture damage and may warp or swell if they are exposed to water. They are also not as resistant to wear and tear, and the edges may chip or peel over time.

In Conclusion

When it comes to choosing between wood and particle board cabinets, it’s important to consider your budget, the style of your kitchen, and your specific needs and preferences. If you want a durable and long-lasting option that adds warmth and character to your kitchen, wood cabinets may be the better choice. However, if you’re looking for a more affordable option that’s easy to install, particle board cabinets may be a good option.

Regardless of which type of cabinets you choose, it’s important to do your research and consider all of your options before making a decision. This will help ensure that you get the best value for your money and end up with a kitchen that you love. If you need any aftermarket storage solutions, we have you covered!

Creating an Unexpected Space-Confessions of a Woodworker…

Confessions anyone? If you are a creative, semi-handy person then you might find this mudroom cabinet here to be a desirable and attainable project for you to take on. I can tell you firsthand that www.WoodworkerExpress.com is loaded with all the hooks, pulls and other components necessary to assemble this stylishly aeriated cabinet.

As alluded to in the beginning, this project resembles confessional. I’m guessing it might’ve been the dark wood combined with the pull and mesh wire grills that triggered me thinking that. That said, once I focused in on the 2nd door (+ the 2 jackets), I realized this indeed wasn’t a (group!) confessional, but rather a great mudroom cabinet design brought to life. Part of that great design is the installed mesh allowing the contents to always be largely obscured, aerating and nearby. On top of that, the wood tone chosen here is fundamental to helping obscure the ‘mud’ you’ll surely expect in these parts.

Speaking of confessions, I believe the floor tiles shown here in the photo are the exact same ones that are in my own home. I know that’s technically unlikely, but I’d almost agree to a substitution to just see if I’m right. However, that sounds like a whole lot of effort for me to prove a point (that I’m wrong!). I’ll also mention that you are well within your whims to design and build your own confessional….

And if you do, could we please see a photo?

‘A Kind of Blue’ is/was a classic album released in 1959 by legendary trumpeter and jazz icon, Miles Davis. The uniquely colored kitchen cabinets in front of us, could absolutely be described as featuring ‘a kind of blue’ motif. I’m not trying to equate Miles’ musical ethos to be in harmony with this particular kitchen design, but then again: Why not?

Creative freedom in the arts as well as the design world are imperative to self-expression, so why not just go for those designs that you’re dreaming of. What I’m suggesting is simply: Embrace the Bold!

Now there was a time within the last dozen years or so where I had a very navy blue kitchen . But I’ve since moved on from that to a more grayish feel. Although focused at the moment on the big, bright blue kitchen cabinets, the utensils and cookware that we rely on daily generally don’t sit on top of the counters as something to simply look at. That’s what the cabinets are for and as we see here, Base Cabinet Fillers can (and should) be a part of the storage and organizational mindset when we’re designing a kitchen. Also note the muted appeal of the stark black cabinet hardware against the plain birch cabinets. This allows the fantastic blue color to pop!

And this one makes no excuses for being bold and cartoonish in its approach…and I, for one, love it! If you are in this category as well, then head on over to check out these great Base Cabinet Fillers from Rev-A-Shelf and other great manufacturers at: www.WoodworkerExpress.com.

Harkening back to the beginning of this column, please feel free to investigate ‘A Kind of Blue’, which is considered by many to be one of THE greatest jazz records ever recorded. “Not everything has to be shiny and new, so be sure to treasure the niceties in life, some of which already exist.

In general, I’m well aware that I have much more clarity when it comes to what I dislike vs. what I do like. I’m able to quickly rule things out that I deem to be ‘rubbish’ to my (not so) sophisticated aesthetic palette. That said, to my eye today’s kitchen is far from what I would deem ‘rubbish’ and in fact, it’s unbelievably awesome. And for those who know me (…in real life), that also comes with the caveat that I first and foremost love open concept design and a kitchen where folks will gather to eat, drink, and mumble. THIS is not that kitchen…the one where everyone is so happy that they somehow can become apathetic to the shame of dropping food on the(your) floor. Adding to this ease of complicity is the cat who will assuredly ‘fix things’ when the shrimp tail inevitably descends from finger towards floor.

The great grey colors lead the way here while white saves the day and keeps things bright enough – it’s a kitchen after all! The backsplash is cooler than anyone will realize right off the bat. I call it ‘Railyard Chic’, blending those various brick tones. Brilliance because of the brick, I declare! Track lighting also keeps the look here flexible and ever-changing, should you desire that…and who wouldn’t? You can’t miss the fabulous wood range hood that’s coordinated so nicely with the quite semi-sophisticated faucet/sink combo. I also appreciate the laundry closet concept which utilizes a sliding door design. It’s just a great hideaway. Do your dishes, wash and dry your clothes, all at the same time while keeping the noise confined to just one area of the home – sounds like a night time task. Needless to say, www.WoodworkerExpress.com can be front and center for you in providing help during the process of transferring a similar look and feel into YOUR kitchen. Again, a splendid kitchen design for us to appreciate…additionally confirmed by the feline who seems right at home sniffing what could possibly have been a ‘smudge’ missed by the bather, but never the cat.
